Directed Study
Through the Colleges' Directed Study Program, students can earn academic credit for completing in-depth legal research and writing projects under the supervision of a faculty member.
Some Directed Study students elect to write scholarly papers for potential submission to legal journals or law reviews. Such papers, called "articles," tend to be heavily footnoted with references to legal opinions, law texts, and law reviews. Articles often propose new solutions to existing legal problems, examine the development of a legal principle over time, or analyze new legislation.
Other students earn Directed Study credits by creating publications that explain the law to lay audiences, such as brochures summarizing consumer laws or bankruptcy options. Finally, some students design legal research pathfinders that examine materials upon which practitioners rely when handling matters in specific areas of law, such as Franchise Law or Civil Rights Law.
